Microneedling, or collagen induction therapy, is a cosmetic procedure that is an effective tool in anti-aging skin care and hair follicle growth. This procedure lifts and tightens the skin while providing texture, scar, and elasticity improvement for all skin types. A 2016 Dermatology Surgery Journal found that microneedling and laser therapy each improve skin texture, but gave credit to microneedling for being better tolerated, with fewer side effects and less downtime.
Microneedling may help acne, hair loss, dark spots and patches of skin. It can help reduce large pores, diminish scars, help with stretch marks, sun damage, rosacea, fine lines, wrinkles, and can help produce elasticity to this skin.
This procedure is done using a tool with small needles that make tiny cuts in your skin causing your body to produce collagen and elastin to heal the treated area. The inflammatory reaction of the skin is extremely short and fades significantly within 12 to 48 hours. In order to reduce visible redness, we recommend hyaluronic acid after the procedure, and to protect the skin with zinc-based sunblock. The use of mineral makeup may be used after procedure.
The number of treatments required will be determined by each individual’s treatment goals and the health of your skin. However, it is recommended for most patients to receive a series of 4 treatments spaced about 4 weeks apart. For patients with deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks or acne scars, it is recommended to receive 6 to 8 sessions at 4 to 6 weeks apart.
